STANDERTON VICTIM EMPOWERMENT FOUR ANNUAL EVENT

EVENT 1

Title: 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

 Dates: November 25th to December 10th

Objective: The main objective of this event is to raise awareness, educate, and mobilize our community to take action against gender-based violence.

Agenda:

Day 1: Awareness Kickoff and Ribbon Ceremony

·       Date and Time: November 25th, 10:00 AM

·       Location: Town Square

·       Description: We gather in the heart of our town to kick off the campaign. Mayor Zandile Khumalo will give an opening speech. Survivor Sindi Thwala will share her inspiring story.

 

Day 2: Workshop - Understanding Domestic Violence

·       Date and Time: November 26th, 2:00 PM

·       Location: Community Center

·       Description: Join us for an interactive workshop led by experts in the field. Learn to recognize the signs of domestic violence and how to provide support to survivors.

 

Day3-Day8: Art Exhibition - Expressions Against Violence

·       Date and Time: 02 December to December 4th (Daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM)

·       Location: Town Art Gallery

·       Description: Explore the powerful art created by survivors and local artists. These artworks express their experiences, resilience, and hope in the face of violence.

 

Day 9: Social Media Campaign - #BreakTheSilence

·       Date: 5 December 2023

·       Description: Participate in our social media campaign. Share your thoughts, stories, or supportive messages using #BreakTheSilence to raise awareness online.

 

Day 10-Day15: Fundraising Drive

·       Date and Time: December 6th, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

·       Location: Town Center

·       Description: Support our cause by contributing to our fundraising drive. All proceeds will go towards local shelters and support services for survivors.

 

Day 16: Closing Ceremony and Pledge to Action

·        Date and Time: December 10th, 5:00 PM

·        Location: Town Square

·        Description: We'll reflect on the 16 Days of Activism, share key takeaways, and present a call to action for the community. Participants will be invited to take a pledge against gender-based violence.

EVENT 2

Title: "Empower: Break the Silence, Stop the Violence"

Date: Month of May 2023

Objective: This campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about gender-based violence, providing education on prevention and support, and empowering individuals to be part of the solution.

 Agenda:

Week 1: Campaign Launch and Survivor Testimonials

·       Date and Time: May 1st, 10:00 AM

·       Location: Town Park

·       Description: Launch the campaign with a community event in the park. The program includes:

  •      Campaign introduction and goals
  •      Survivor testimonials and stories
  •      Information booths and distribution of campaign materials
  • Week 2: Educational Workshops

·       Dates and Times: May 3rd to May 7th, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

·       Location: Community Center

·       Description: A week of educational workshops featuring expert speakers, focusing on topics like recognizing signs of GBV, bystander intervention, and supporting survivors.

 

Week 3: Film Screenings and Panel Discussions

·       Dates and Times: May 11th and 12th, 6:30 PM

·       Location: Community Cinema

·       Description: Screen relevant films and documentaries about GBV, followed by engaging panel discussions with experts, activists, and local advocates.

Week 4: Social Media Challenge

·       Dates: May 15th - 31st

·       Description: Participate in a social media challenge to promote the campaign. Share messages, stories, or art that convey your commitment to ending gender-based violence using our campaign hashtag.


EVENT 3


Youth empowerment conference

Date: 18 October 2023

Time: 11:00

Location: Standerton Hall

Description: Youth empowerment conference, the purpose of the event is to help develop skills, confidence, and provide relevant support to succeed in life. We also aimed at creating healthier and higher qualities of life for underprivileged or at-risk youth. Attendees at Empower Youth include youth workers, recreational program staff, outreach workers, youth workers, youth counsellors, social service workers, teachers, activists, supervisors and more, who are looking to connect with new ideas, and with other peers and colleagues. Nolithando and Sikhululwe will be our guest speaker.


EVENT 4

Volunteer Appreciation Picnic

Date: 20 November 2023

Time: 10:00

Location: Marble Hall

Description: Volunteer Appreciation Picnic Our goal is to welcome and celebrate all volunteers and the time and effort they give to their community and causes. The event will be registration based so we can account for food and beverages as well as door prizes for volunteers and the attendees will be current and old volunteers and their families. Nolithando and Sikhululwe will be our guest speaker.


Standerton Victim Empowerment Centre is committed to making a positive impact on community service, community event, local cause and these upcoming events reflect our dedication to creating meaningful experiences that bring people together. We invite members of the community, supporters, and partners to join us in these exciting endeavors.
